Description
Harvesting for 2023 Season will start soon.
The Black Sapote is shaped like a tomato. This fruit has a thin and firm rind and its color is shining dark green with brown specs. The fruit flesh is rich, dark brown colored and custard like and is therefore called the “chocolate pudding” fruit. Black sapote’s flesh is rich and custard-like, with a sweet, nut-like mild flavor and when ripe fruit pulp is blended with milk, cream or ice-cream, it tastes a little like chocolate – but without the caffeine or calories.
Season
- January through March.

$3/lb for this rare fruit is a great bargain. Searching online, I haven’t found it sold anywhere else for this low of a price and in this much quantity. Packaging was good considering they were still hard/unripe and shipping was expedient. All of them were picked at the right stage to ensure they would ripen on the counter. Word of caution: make sure to check for any mealy bugs and sugar ants under the calyxes/leafy stem upon delivery. It’s a good hiding place for insects and since I don’t think any questionable sprays were used by the farm, it’s to be expected.
Highly recommended and thank you to YP Farms for the sapotes.
